Dave bought a giant tarp to turn our pole barn into a workshop for the timber frame portion of this project. The tarp is an on-going project in itself as the wind and elements do a number on it. Dave spends quite a bit of time staking it down and repairing it from high winds, etc. Below you will see the end of our beautiful oak timbers. They are all organized and marked. Our timber frame guys, Tim & Phil discuss their strategy and finally Tim cuts the end off the timber (the drop). We ordered 89 timbers from Hochstetler Milling, a wonderful Amish company. When they arrived in early May the driveway was too muddy to get the heavy equipment up without serious ruts. They were unloaded in our pasture until the driveway dried out and we were able to bring them up to the building site. Our friend, Phil Holman-Hebert, is also helping us with the timber frame. He has managed to escape the camera so far - but he and his son, Solomon, are in the center picture below. Oscar & Dave put up our mailbox using a branch from our land for the post. So far we have received bills and unsolicited advertisements. We are anxious awaiting more exciting mail...like a letter from you. :) For those of you driving out that way, our driveway is directly across the dirt road from the black new-looking mailbox marked 3395. We are now receiving mail at: 3395 Buck Creek Road Oskaloosa, KS 66066 |
